*It's autumn here now, and the large rose garden is still stubbornly in bloom even though the leaves have changed color. The weather is clear and the sky blue with only a few wispy white clouds. Sometimes prehistoric Earth can be simply beautiful. But who has time to stop and look some days?*

*snickers at the stuff about the rubber duck* Elec, I like your sense of humor. Really.

*Quick notices a set of what looks like makeshift stairs. Well, as he sees it, even if that wasn't the intent, it's what he'll be using them for.* Come on, Elec. Let's get Air in that thing.

*He looks more carefully at it before feeling a little relieved on noticing the grating. The idea of throwing Air into this thing injured like he is right now just wouldn't sit that well with Quick.*

*Quint waves them over to the computer* The computer controls what the CR does, and on manual setting there's a program that lets you tell it just what to do.

((the program Quint's brought up is an easy-use interface for the CR.
In this case, the CR would have scanned Air and there would be a scan on the screen. Scans can be rotated, zoomed in or out, etc. There would also be a listing of things the Pred computer thinks are damaged. It likely wouldn't know that the chip isn't supposed to be part of Air's systems, but it would notice those cut wires. It's easy enough to select things, explain to it, etc. And it won't actually repair anything without confirmation.
Think of it like a Windows program that doesn't crash. Easy point and click stuff. Predacons are used to setting up important systems to be used by a certain lowest common intelligence in the crew. ;)
In this case, it'd be a matter of selecting the chip, telling the computer that that does not belong there and needs removed. The computer might ask if the wires and connections to the chip should be removed as well (and should highlight which ones it means in the scan, and they'd be selectable, etc, and so on)
Anything it does remove it'll remove completely. The nanites work on a molecular level and would take the chip apart into its componant molecules and store the molecules away in whatever subspace it uses as supply storage. It can also fabricate parts (depending on how well stocked the materials storage is, and Waspy does a fairly decent job of that) and do other repairs.))

*he looks up at the scans* That thing's wired in about as bad as the choke chips that are used where I'm from. The CR didn't have any trouble removing mine or Ballade's though.

*sighs* Wind may be psychotic, but he knows how to do good work with these things. I think it was meant to be permanent, with the way that chip is placed. The wiring isn't too bad, really, but the chip is the worst part. I'm not even sure how Wind attached it.

*blinks, a little surprised as his mind comprehends Quint's comment* Wily put things like that in you guys? All the fail-safes in us were simple enough. That's why I wasn't so concerned at the mess in Air earlier. Some of that was the remains of Air's.

*Quick shakes his head as he continues to cautiously check over what the scan picked up as damaged.*

The CR can remove it even if it's supposed to be permanant. The choke chips are supposed to be a part of our design. They're not meant to ever be removed. Same with the tracking device, but that one was easier to get rid of.

The fail-safes we had aren't anything that we could remove on our own. Some of it's in our programming. Hardcoded Laws, and other things that will activate the choke chip if you even think about disobeying.

And if you do manage to disobey, if you break the Laws, then you mindfreeze. Just lock up, and he'll catch you then. And then he'll mindwipe or reprogram you. There's no escape. None of us have ever really gotten away on our own, like you did. Ballade came the closest.

I was found in the Nexus in a pile of garbage after he threw me out. What was left of me, anyway. He'd spent years stripping me for parts while I was in the Gallery. And I was repaired after that.

I'm not sure how Ice managed. I just know that he mindfroze, so he must have broken one of the Laws, and then the CPS people had the programming failsafes removed and sent him somewhere Dr. Wily couldn't find him. I'm kind of worried he might still have the choke chip and tracker though.

And Ballade... Ballade's special. He broke the laws all on his own. And we used the CR to keep rebooting his systems until he beat the lockup too. But.. don't say anything in the Nexus about him, ok? You never know who might overhear there, and Dr. Wily doesn't know that Ballade won't have to obey him anymore.

*shakes his head* We were only able to get away due to luck. *quietly* Crash and me were likely to become Wily's next examples of why it is a bad idea to fail him, and as for Air, with Wind putting out the effort to put that chip in... *cuts off that thought, trying to not think about it*

*frowns* I'm not sure which Wily is worse, they both are awful in their own ways it seems like.

*Quick works at the keyboard, going through the list of damaged parts, telling it what to not repair. He seems to pause at one part, the one that the chip is attached to, almost as though he's not sure if it should be fixed.*

*quiet, and a bit flatly* Our Wily's idea of punishing failure was to beat you so bad the others would have to carry you to your room, and it might be a week before self-repair fixed enough to let you try to crawl to him and beg for repairs and hope he didn't beat you again for bothering him.

Or if he was busy, just using the remote for the choke chip and ordering you not to scream so he could get back to work without the noise to disrupt him.

*shivers* He left Ballade like that for a couple days after Ballade lost to Megaman the first time.

I think ours didn't scrap most of us, because then he wouldn't have us to hurt any more. *shakes head slightly* Yours is still worse, so far. It might be more of a tie soon, though.

*shakes his head a bit again and looks at the screen* You should be able to zoom in and you can tell it to just fix some parts of things if there's a problem with fixing the whole componant.
